p.3 John Dean, steward of steam boat Cataraqui, disappears off boat and drowns near Isthmus on Rideau Canal.

Welland Canal - The number of vessels which has passed through this navigation since the 25th May last, is 179. The trade upwards is not so great as last year, owing to the pressure of the times; yet the tolls received in June exceed any amount formerly taken in any one month. It is expected says the Journal, that the fall business will be greater than in former years. [Commercial Herald]

Improvement of the Trent - N.H. Baird returns from inspection, work continues, including dam at Buckhorn Rapids. [Cobourg Star]
