p.3 After two failures to pump out the Coffer-dam for the foundation of the Martello Tower on the market shoal, it is at length cleared by the application of steam power. Mr. Ives' steam ferry boat Island Queen has succeeded, through means of an ingenious contrivance of Mr. Lewis Ives, in clearing the dam of water, and keeping it clear. The workmen proceeded to lay the foundation of the Tower last week, and it is expected that the work will be raised above the water line this week.

Thos. Worthington gazetted as being new Collector of Customs for the Port of Wellington - a political appointment. [Picton Sun]
