Chicago River, elevators Etc.

Description
Media Type:
Image
Item Type:
Stereographs
Description:
Stereoview of the Chicago River about the time of the great fire of 1871. The collection of equipment and sails scattered about the deck of the schooner to the fair right suggests that this may be fitting out for spring. The dark hull in the centre of the screen is of the CHANDLER J. WELLS. The rest of the vessels have not been identified. There are bridges in the foreground and background. There are grain elevators to the left and in the background to the right. It appears to be in the long slip to the south of the river that had the tracks of the Illinois Central Railroad angling across at the end.
