p.1 Welland Canal - We are pleased to see the activity which prevails on the Canal in the completion of the public works, under the direction of Mr. Killaly. At the aqueduct, we noticed operations to finish what remained undone. In the swamp they were all alive. The new cut is a noble piece of work. Opening very early, there has been a larger traffic through it up to the end of April, than to the same date in any former year. In 1849, the number of vessels through, at that time, was 185; and in 1847, 145. The number, this year was 196 - of which 147 were bound to American and 49 to Canadian ports - 112 of the former nd 49 of the latter proceeding upwards. [St. Catherines Journal ]
