p.135 - On Friday last, a batteau in the employment of H. & S. Jones, whilst towing up the Long Sault Rapids, near the head, from some cause or other had her bow thrown too far out, when the current got so strong a hold, that the horses on the tow line, were drawn into the water, and she filled and went down. Of the persons on board, one was drowned, three descended the rapids borne up only by an oak plank, and were saved, whilst one other, after going to the bottom, rose again clinging to a portion of the mast, was rescued from his perilous situation. Three horses were drowned and the cargo consisting of 6 or 7 tons of merchandise, partly owned in this Town, lost with the exception of a few articles.  [Brockville Recorder]

Boat Losses - A boat belonging to H. & S. Jones, of Brockville, engaged in the forwarding business, was lately obliged to throw overboard 67 bbls. of potash, and 50 bbls. of flour, the most of which was afterwards picked up.

A boat belonging to A. & W. Morris & Co. of Brockville, laden with Hardware, was lately sunk - most of it has been recovered.

AUCTION - The Steam Boat TORONTO, together with all her Furniture, will be sold at Public Auction to the highest bidder, on Monday, the 13th instant. The sale to take place on board the Boat at 12 o'clock.   Kingston, Dec. 1st, 1830.
