p.3 sailor belonging to William Penn, then loading with staves, drowns while swimming. [Chatham Journal]

The Steamer Shamrock, belonging to Ross, Matthie, & Co., burst her boiler between Montreal and Lachine, and shortly afterwards sunk. 54 persons are said to be missing.
