p.2 Bill for improvement of St. Lawrence passed on Feb. 21st. [Cornwall Observer]

Goderich - ....The Steam Boat which will be launched at Goderich in April next, will obviate all difficulties of approach during the summer, and greatly tend to increase the population, and add to the prosperity of this interesting little sea port.... [York Courier]

Prescott, 20th Feb., 1834.

Sir, - The building committee of the steam boat now building at Prescott, to ascend the rapids from Montreal, have directed a further instalment of ten per cent upon the stock subscribed by you, to be paid into the hands of the Treasurer, Alpheus Jones Esq. at this place, on or before the tenth of March next. I am directed to say, that the building committee would feel much gratified at your using your influence in your neighbourhood to get more stock taken, feeling fully assured that the enterprise will succeed, and prove to the stockholders a profitable investment; independent of the gratification it must afford to every friend of improvement to reflect that he has aided in an enterprize that will create a revolution in the commerce of the Canadas.

The committee cannot, for a moment admit, even should their expectations not be fully realized, that the stock would fail to make a profitable return upon some other route. From all the information they have obtained, however, they do not entertain any doubts whatever of the entire success of the project.

Their determination is to have the boat in full operation by the first of July, and they trust they will have the satisfaction of declaring a handsome dividend at the close of the navigation.

It would be desirable to get about £1500 more stock taken, and they trust you will be able to aid them in effecting it.

By order of the committee,

L. HILLIARD, Secretary.
