XXXIV - NO. 8 MAY 2002 THE EDITOR'S LOGBOOK The April Meeting featured some fascinating old 16 mm. films brought to us by Bill Moran. So what if the brittle films broke a few times, or if some creative rewinding had to be done? Our film master extraordinaire, Roger Chapman, kept the images rolling, and we saw some vintage views of ships in the 1920s and 1930s, some scenes aboard SOUTH AMERICAN, and the tug BARKHAMSTEAD and barge CONSTITUTION delivering the first load of coal to the Marysville power plant. We were spellbound. Our thanks to Bill and Roger for a very special evening. By the time you read these words, the Annual Dinner Meeting will be his tory, and Shame on You if you missed it! Our thanks to Scott Misener, our speaker, for a great presentation; to David Bull for arranging the pro gramme, and to Bill Wilson for making the restaurant arrangements and selling the tickets. A great time was had by all. Our next issue of "Scanner" likely will appear in August, and our next meeting will be on the first Friday in October. Ye Ed. now gets some time away from the keyboard, so please do not expect a June or July issue. Our thanks to all who responded to our sale of back issues of "Scanner". We hope you all got the old issues you wanted. At some point in the fu ture, we will be making individual back issues available. Enclosed with this issue is the notice of our 2002 Silent Auction. We hope you will find therein some attractive items and that you will bid generously on them. We extend our most sincere thanks to the donors of the items and to all who bid on them, thus supporting our Society. The ge nerosity of all will help keep your membership fees under control. * * * * * * * ISSN 0318-014X Executive Committee Jay N. Bascom R. F. Beaupre David Bull Roger Chapman Lorne Joyce Capt. J.
