p.3 Disgraceful Neglect - In consequence of there being no light on the end of the wharf at this place, the boats have now passed up three times within one week without calling. We understand that the Harbor Company are not bound to keep this light up, and the Government have neglected to do so. Captain Dick, with his usual enterprise and spirit, has hitherto supplied oil for his nights, at his own expense!

Unless the Board of Works guarantee the completion of our Harbor, and the necessary provision of light to render it available to the trade, the Government will receive no support in the House from the members for this District. We have hitherto confined ourselves to remonstrance, but we shall do so no longer. As we said last week, Public Utility is our aim, and no politics, and no party, shall in future divert us from it....

In what we have said above respecting the light, we would not be understood to attach any blame to the Lighthouse keeper; he is a zealous and faithful officer, and obeys orders.
