The Kalkaska, built 1884, St. Clair, Mich. 679 gross tons; 178' x 33.8' x 15.5; crew of 13; had 585 h.p. Purchased by Charles S. Neff in Feb. 1918 from the Pilsen Lumber Co., Chicago. Had been damaged by fire; repaired; carried salt, grain & coal. No lumber to be had for carrying war time conditions in the country. Vessel paid a war tax on its operations, made long trips to Montreal during 1919. Laid up Marine City, Mich. Dec. 15,1919 after a stormy trip from Chicago.Listed Inland Lloyds Vessel Register,1893; Ship Masters' Assoc. Directories.
