p.2 New Steamer - The Messrs. Davy are building a splendid steamer at Bath. She is about the same size as the Gildersleeve, and is really intended for the Bay of Quinte, which is sadly in want of a fast and good steamboat. She is 170 feet long, by 26 feet beam, and her engines are to be of 70 horse power. Her model is extremely beautiful, and on the stocks she looks remarkably well. No foreign artist is employed in her build, but everything is of home manufacture. Mr. D. Tait, of Amherst Island opposite, laid her keel and put up her timbers, and Mr. Peter Beaupre, the ingenious constructor of the Kingston Floating Dock, is superintending her finishing. Owing to some delay, her engines were not contracted for until recently, and she will not be launched until August, when she goes down to Montreal to receive them at Messrs. Ward & Brush's Foundry. As this vessel is owned on the Bay of Quinte, so she will be sailed on it, and there is reason to hope that the Bay interests will be consolidated by appointing to her command a gentleman living on those waters, whose duty and inclinations would go hand in hand. Let the Bay of Quinte be but true to itself, and fewer tricks will be played upon its people - in the steamboat line.
