SHIP BUILDING.--Caleb Harrison has just commenced laying the keel for a vessel, just south of John Jennings' Tannery. the dimensions are to be, length of keel 96 feet, breadth of beam 32 feet, depth of hold 8 feet.
Capt. Barber has two new vessels well underway at his yard below Sweet's Warehouse.
Capt. Jones has just contracted to build a new vessel of the following dimensions: 108 feet keel, 25 1/4 feet beam, 9 1/2 feet hold, with a capacity of 240 tons.
The schooner Farmar [Farmer] has been removed from the river to the dock just west of Sweet's Warehouse, to be rebuild. [sic]
Marine Accident.--The Propeller Westmoreland left here Saturday afternoon, and after proceeding a short distance the head of the cylinder of her engine was knocked off by the piston, striking it with great violence in consequence of the crank pin giving away. She was towed into port by the Pacific, and has gone into winter quarters at Haskin & Hadley's Warehouse. The Captain estimates her damage at over $1,500.
She had on board 16,000 bus. corn for Walker & Son, 35 kegs butter and 135 hides for W. P. Swift of Chicago, and 1,074 bels. flour for Hoover & Medbury of this city.
