Str. Bay State, Lewiston, gen. cargo.

July 31st - Str. Ontario, Morristown, gen. cargo.

Str. G. Clinton, Oswego, 2 barges in tow, M.W. Lester.

Schr. Caledonia, Halifax, 50 hhds. sugar, J. Carruthers; and other goods for Toronto.


July 30th - Schr. Triton, Oswego, 50,000 feet lumber, Smith & Post.

Str. Bay State, Ogdensburgh, passengers and baggage.

July 31st - Str. Ontario, Lewiston, passengers and baggage.

Str. George Clinton, Oswego, 100,000 feet of lumber, M.W. Lester & Co.



Buffalo, 31st July, 1850.

This morning while on her downward passage the str. America collapsed her steam chest instantly killing one of the assistant engineers and two other persons, as well as dreadfully scalding several - 25 mortally. The assistant engineer's body was found under the cranks. The decks of the ill-fated vessel are badly torn up and otherwise injured. As nearly as can be ascertained 27 were scalded of whom 9 are dead - 18 badly perhaps mortally wounded.
