p.2 Rideau Canal - reduction in tolls on 1st of September.

ORDNANCE CANALS - TARIFF OF TOLLS - to be charged on the canals in Canada - list of tolls on various products starting on Sept. 1st.

The Ontario, one of the Lake and River Navigation Company's Steamers, is probably not excelled, for speed and cleanliness, by any boat afloat on American waters. That old favorite of the travelling public, Captain Throop, is yet her commander, and right well does he understand and discharge the duties of a superior officer. Her gentlemanly Clerk, Mr. Seymour, is attentive and capable, and fills the post so well, that his popular predecessor (Mr. Kay) is scarcely missed.

The Ontario's cleanliness, and the capacity displayed in the getting up of her meals, are owing to the care and experience of Mr. G.S. Wormer, one of the best Stewards that ever sailed. Gentlemanly and attentive, he has perhaps done as much to give the Ontario her enviable reputation as any other man. We can but say that the reputation could not have been more legitimately earned nor better merited. [Watertown Union]
