MARINE NOTES

The str. Cultivateur left at 4:30 o'clock this morning wth 150 ? of the press excursionists from Detroit. The remainder will follow next week.

Considerable quantities of leached ashes are being taken from Kingston to Oswego and other parts of the States. They are used for fertilizing purposes.

The schr. Snow Bird, which ran ashore at Oswego last fall, and which was recently rebuilt on the beach, is being caulked. She will be commanded by her new owner, Capt. Andrew Beard, of Toronto.

Yesterday Messrs. W.T. McCullough & Co., of Brockville, discharged 200 tons of coal from the schr. Nellie Sherwood in seven hours. This is quick work. The schooner has arrived here and is loading iron ore for Sodus.

John McDonald, Welland Canal branch, Jos. Rodey, Kingston branch, John Parker, Toronto branch Seamen's Union were each fined $2; John Fogerty, Kingston branch, $1; Louis Lavoie and Edmond Jones, Kingston branch, $5 each, for sailing vessels at less than Union wages.

The small str. James Wood, of Alexandria Bay, was run aground on the shoals near the Twin Islands opposite Thousand Island Park a few days ago. The Reindeer, which was near, came to her assistance, and after some difficulty succeeded in hauling her off. The boat went on apparently uninjured.
