p.2 The Regatta - Yesterday was rather an unpleasant and boisterous day for the spectators of the Regatta, but just the weather to try the qualities of the competing yachts. The following were entered: -

Challenge - Mr. Hamilton

Prima Donna - Mr. Osborne

Kate Hays - Mr. Phillips

Tempest - Mr. Pidgeon

Bloomer - Mr. McLean

Jetty Treffez - Mr. Hibbert

Black Swan - Mr. Brown

Jessie - Mr. Yarwood

Agnes - Mr. Cunningham

The boats, at the start, got off well together and proceeded on their course, which was to a buoy at Wolfe Island, fronting the city, thence to four-mile point, and home - again repeating the same course. The Challenge and Prima Donna soon left the other yachts far in the rear, and considerable interest was excited by the contest between these vessels. The Prima Donna gradually gained on her antagonist till near the buoy at four-mile point, when an unlucky puff of wind carried away a portion of her rigging, by which she was detained full ten minutes, but nevertheless she rounded the buoy and came in about three minutes in advance of the Challenge. Repeating the course, the Prima Donna came in ahead of her antagonist with about twenty minutes to spare. None of the other yachts, it may be remarked, went round the buoys a second time, owing to the increase of the wind and the very heavy sea running.

Of the skiff races, the Championship was won by Mr. Medley, in the Amateur; the Second Class race, skiff under 19 feet, by the Annie, Mr. Hawkes, and the Champagne Stakes, four-oared boats, by the Pale Ale.
