p.2 A channel was made through the Peninsula opposite Toronto, by the last severe easterly gale, the storm thus doing what it has often been in contemplation to execute by means of manual labor. The Leader states that this channel is several feet deep, and that so powerful was the current which rushed through it on a recent occasion that it drove out from the bay eight square miles of ice.
