p.2 Eleven steamers, 72 American sailing vessels and 36 British, passed through the Welland Canal during the week ending the 31st instant. In all 119, a much higher number than usual.

Steamboat Explosion - Chicago, June 2nd - The steamer Eclipse burst her boiler yesterday, killing one fireman and boy, and fatally injuring the Engineer and Captain. Several others were also severely hurt - the explosion tearing the boat to pieces. It is owned in Buffalo, and valued at $12,000.
