Narrow Escape - Yesterday evening while the Barge Foam was lying at Fraser's wharf, unloading railroad iron, a flash of lightning struck her topmast, shivering it to pieces, and passed down the pump, exploded, leaving a hole in the side of it about the size of a man's hand, doing no further damage. Three men were in the hold at work at the time, but with the exception of a severe shock, received no injury. [Herald, Saturday]
