p.2 mail steamer Magnet, freight steamer Scotland arrived from Toronto, Corra Linn, Ottawa and Napier still running.

-At Port Hope, one small fore and aft and a large three-masted schooner are building. The Guide names 14 schooners which have been built at Port Hope, and expresses the opinion that on the opening of the railway, by which supplies of the best oak can be easily procured, the business of shipbuilding will be largely increased at that port.

-str. Lady Elgin has been purchased by A.T. Spencer & Co. for Lake Superior Line. [Chicago Tribune]

Convention of Lake Underwriters - to be held Jan. 8th at Buffalo.
