Copper Captains - Capt. Robert Moodie, formerly of Port Hope, now an alderman in Toronto, newspapers arguing about whether he should still be referred to as Captain.

Toronto Assizes - Murdock vs Best et al - plaintiff claimed to recover compensation for services rendered as captain of str. Europa. The defence was that the vessel was chartered by parties in Oswego, so it was they who were liable; verdict for plaintiff 50 pounds damages.
