p.2 According to the Detroit Free Press there are now in service on the lakes 1,445 steamers, propellers, tugs and vessels, which are classified as follows: sidewheel steamers 67; propellers 219; tugs 103; barks 94; brigs 75; schooners 892. There have been fifty vessels built the past season. Of disasters, there have been 275. The total loss of life has been 107.
