p.2 As the steamer Osprey was leaving Port Credit, on Monday night, a wheelsman, named Wm. Walker, of Kingston, accidently fell overboard and was drowned. The captain at once stopped the steamer, a boat was lowered and a life-buoy thrown out, but all of no avail. The body of the unfortunate man was found near one of the life preservers that had been thrown to him. The water being so cold and the night dark it was impossible to do more than was done to save the deceased.
Freight To Ottawa - The traffic between this city and Ottawa has so much increased since the stoppage of the trains between Ottawa and Prescott, that the proprietors of the line of the Kingston and Ottawa steamers have had to put on an extra boat to carry the surplus freight passing downwards. This is bringing into requisition some of the old boats of the line, which have not made their appearance here for a long time previously.
Change in the Through Line - There was no steamer by the above line today, from Montreal, owing to the withdrawal of the Banshee, and there will consequently be no boat downwards on Sunday.
