p.2 Steamboat Travel - number of passengers is up on both American and Royal Mail lines.

Detroit, Aug. 12th - The propeller Meteor took fire on Friday morning while in St. Mary's ship canal basin, and was scuttled and sunk in 12 feet of water. No lives were lost, but the passengers lost all their effects. No further particulars. The Meteor is the same boat that collided with the Pewabic. Both are now owned by J.T. Whiting & Co., of Detroit.
