p.2 The Schooner E.B. Allen - The schooner E.B. Allen, from Chicago to Ogdensburgh, laden with wheat and oats, struck on the shoal nearly opposite Murray (Murney) Tower yesterday, while entering the harbor during the gale. She afterwards anchored off the city when it was discovered that she had sprung a leak, and soon there were several feet of water in the hold. A tug has been employed to take care of her all this morning, and she was eventually towed out of the harbor for her destination. The depth of water on the bar is variously stated at nine, eleven and fourteen feet, but the supposition is that the vessel came in contact with an anchor which is stuck fast in the bar.

The Gale and the Vessels - The furious gale which prevailed all day yesterday (Friday) greatly tried the moorings of the vessels in the harbor, and the wonder is that some serious damage did not occur. The only craft which broke away was the schooner Mariniere, light, which drifted against the Cataraqui Bridge near the toll house and demolished about thirty feet of the upper railing. She might have done a good deal of damage to the pierwork of the bridge had not the tug Swan went to her assistance and got her away. She had not been taken far, however, before the force was reversed; the wind being against her and very high the tug could make no headway and began to drift with the schooner. In this dilemma the only thing to be done, as the vessel was fast backing towards the drawbridge, was for the tug to drop her and let her pass through, which was done, when she was at once placed in comparatively calm water. She now lies moored to the bridge house pier, the only damage sustained being the breaking of her taffrail.
