p.2 Accident On Board The Gazelle - A young lad temporarily employed on board the Gazelle unfortunately got his leg broken yesterday (Wednesday) from the falling on it of a heavy billet of wood...
The Port - Little change has taken place in the harbour for the past three days. The wind blew a fresh gale from the southward during the whole of Tuesday, the weather being warm and pleasant. The marine railway is occupied by the barge Energy and the tug Ellen Jeffers, while the schooner Sea-bird, bound for Toronto, is waiting at the yard to undergo some caulking. The steamer Gazelle commenced running to the Island yesterday, and the Pierrepont continues to supply the place of the Watertown to Cape Vincent. Today the propeller Bruno is taking in pig iron at Chaffey's wharf, and sails tonight. The propeller East, for the same place, intends following on Saturday. These two vessels, belonging to the Montreal Transportation company will run between this port and Chicago during the season. The British Lion was towed to the Penitentiary wharf, where she is taking in stone. The steamer Pierrepont took the cattle from the Bay of Quinte to Cape Vincent this afternoon.
The Bay of Quinte - The steamer Bay of Quinte left here this morning at an early hour, with the intention of proceeding to Belleville, if possible, but after proceeding a short distance above Bath the ice prevented her further progress, and she returned to port after landing at Pruyner's wharf, and taking on a load of cattle consisting of 76 head and a number of calves. The ice was moving downward at the time the steamer left on her return, and it is intended to leave the city again tomorrow morning, when the passage is expected to be clear. The Bay of Quinte will commence her regular trips on Saturday under the command of Capt. Comer.
