p.2 Arrived In Leaky Condition - The schooner Ariadne, which went ashore off Newcastle last week, laden with barley, was towed in here on Sunday afternoon, and is now discharging her grain into the cars for Toronto, at the Market Battery wharf. Messrs. Calvin & Breck's steam pump is at work on board keeping down the water, while numerous hands are engaged getting out the grain as fast as possible.
-Nothing has yet been heard of the schooner Persian, bound from Chicago to Oswego with wheat, which collided with the schooner E.B. Allen some fifteen days ago on Lake Huron.
New Lighthouses - The last number of the Green Bay Advocate contains some facts in relation to the lighthouses built this season at Chamber's Island and Eagle Bluffs, on Green Bay. The former, to guide vessels through the west channel, is located on the northwest side of the island, and south part of the harbour. The tower, octagonal in form, is connected to the residence for the keeper, both being made of the same materials - brick, stone and iron. The light, a revolving one, will be placed in position about the middle of next month. Two buoys, each made of boiler iron, are anchored near by - the black one on what is known as Frying Pan Shoal and the red one on the Whale's Back. The sum of $14,000 had been appropriated for this work. The Eagle Bluffs, at the south part of the entrance into Eagle Harbour, to guide vessels through the east channel, is not as near completion by two weeks. Its lights are what is termed "fixed." Cost of this, near $10,000.
