p.2 The Schooner Defiance - This vessel, on the shoal off Snake Island, is rapidly going to pieces. She is completely water-logged, and the tugs have totally failed to move her from her position, although part of her deckload has been removed. A large portion of her stern is gone, and a slight addition to the present stiff breeze would doubtless make short work of her. The steamer Pierrepont removed the Defiance's crew last night. She is owned by Mr. Leonard of Olden, and is partially insured.
