p.2 Welland Canal - Reciprocity - We hope at the first meeting of Parliament our Government will earnestly take up the question of reciprocity, and endeavour to have such a treaty concluded as shall, among other things, embrace the shipping interest; and also that the coasting trade shall be thrown open to the respective ships of both countries. It is also unfair to Canadian shipowners that their vessels should be taxed heavily on entering American ports, while their vessels are admitted to Canadian ports free.

Huron & Ontario Ship Canal - (do not consider the scheme advisable)

The Welland Canal - The Council have frequently referred to the enlargement of the Welland Canal, and recur to it now for the purpose of expressing a hope that it will be enlarged the very moment the finances of the country will permit.
