p.2 Shipping News - The schooners Gazelle and Wave Crest left here last evening with lumber for Oswego. The propellers Ottawa and Bristol passed down yesterday evening with general cargo. The propeller Avon passed up last evening. The schooners Superior and Atmosphere, grain laden, arrived this morning at Glassford & Jones' wharf. The schooners Allan, Langmuir and Defiance, left Garden Island today for Hamilton and Lake Erie. A break has occurred in the Rideau canal, near Smith's Falls, which has been the occasion of the non-arrival of the steamer Ottawa. The following telegram, however, was received this morning:

"Smith Falls, May 12th - Don't know when the canal will be fixed. Boat (City of Ottawa) left here this morning, expected to get through."

The following vessels are reported through the Welland Canal today:

Up - Schr. Orion, Cobourg, Erie; prop Georgian, Montreal, Port Stanley, gen cargo; prop City of London, Montreal, Kincardine, gen cargo; bark Southampton, Kingston, Wallaceburg, light.

Down - Bark Geo. Thurston, Dresden, Kingston, timber; brk Gen. Burnsides, River Roseum, Clayton, timber; brk Clyde,Wallaceburg, Kingston, timber; schr. H.P. Massey, Owen Sound, Kingston, wheat; prop Maine, Chicago, Ogdensburg, gen cargo; brig Sir C. Napier, Wallaceburg, Clayton, timber; schr. Tom Weston, Cleveland, Montreal, stone and wooden hoops; schr. Geo. B. Dawson, Chicago, Kingston, wheat; schr. Plymouth Rock, Milwaukie, Oswego, wheat.

At Elevator - Schr. A.P. Grover, and bark Chenango.
