p.4 Early Navigation On Lake Ontario - canoes, 4 gunboats - the largest of 80 tons burthen during Governor Simcoe's time; in 1796 there were three small merchant vessels owned at Kingston, which used to make eleven trips a year to Queenston; in 1812 a newspaper report stated that there were only three vessels on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario over forty tons burthen.
