p.2 Beauharnois Canal - Cornwall, Aug. 12th - The steamer Spartan, of the Royal Mail Line of steamers, on leaving lock number eighteen, known as Tanner's lock, on Saturday night, upward bound, reversed while passing through the lower gates, and carried them away with her. All the water between locks Nos. 18 and 19 rushed down and flooded some portions of the banks, but caused very little damage. The boat sustained no injury. The canal will not in all probability be clear before tomorrow, Tuesday morning.
