p.2 New Propellers - There will be an immense increase in the number of steam craft trading on the inland waters next season of navigation. Sailing vessels are in a way useful and indispensable, but for rapid passages and quick transit of freight, steam is fast gaining popularity and favour - a fact demonstrated by the numerous new propellers and steam barges now being constructed at different points on Lakes Erie and Ontario. In the neighborhood of Kingston shipbuilding is driving, but not in a scale of comparison to Port Dalhousie, Welland, and other places west, the yards of which were never in a greater state of activity. Fully a score of propellers are on the stocks in the Province of Ontario.
