p.2 Navigation Prospects - The Detroit Tribune says on this subject: "There are several of our lake captains who have traversed the lakes for many years past, who are inclined to believe that the present season of navigation will have a late closing, and will possibly be deferred until well towards the latter part of December. This is inferred by the peculiar state of the weather thus far in September, and so far as former instances can be cited, two only can be remembered that compare with the present - the seasons referred to being those of 1851 and 1854. Doubtless other instances are of a like similarity, but in each of the above cases the results were as above stated
