The Great West, which was launched on Thursday from the ship yard of James A. Baker, has a new kind of steering wheel which is, we believe, superior to anything yet introduced on vessels here, as it obviates the necessity of having two or three men at the helm in rough weather. One man on a vessel with this improvement can answer the "starboard, "Port," "Steadee," &c. , without assistance. Mr. Baker's vessel is highly spoken of by nautical men, and we ventured an opinion when she was on the stocks that she was a fine model, which has been confirmed by judges of that style of architecture.
