The Canadian steamers engaged in the Lake Superior trade are carrying large numbers of passengers on their first trips. The City of Owen Sound took out three hundred and fifty, the Quebec two hundred cabin and three hundred deck, and the Northern Belle seventy five. There is a large emigration to Manitoba from Canada. [Oswego Times]

The Chicago Times says that Captain John Moreland, of the Canadian bark Arabia, which arrived at that port on Tuesday from Kingston with stone ballast, was fined $20 by the customs authorities for not reporting at Cheboygan, in the Straits, as required by law. Captain Moreland paid the fine under protest, stating that the wind was blowing a gale from the northward when he entered the Straits Sunday night, and the sea so heavy that it was not deemed safe to attempt to land with a small boat; besides he had only stone ballast on board. The Arabia hails from Kingston.
