p.3 The Garden Island - Owing to an oversight in proof reading, it was stated in the News of last evening that Messrs. Calvin & Breck's barque Garden Island cost $8,000, instead of $70,000.
Accident - On Tuesday evening the schooner Groton on Snake Island, and in endeavouring to raise her centreboard to get her off, the winch used struck the mate of the vessel, whose name we did not learn, over the right eye, fracturing his skull lightly. There was a heavy gale blowing at the time. Dr. A.S. Oliver was sent for and dressed the wound, the Groton, after getting off the shoal, running back to the city for that purpose. The doctor had an awful rough time getting to the vessel. The man will probably recover.
Sad Accident - An accident of a very sad nature occurred last Monday at Bay City, Mich., whereby John Henry Williams lost his life. He was working at the bow of the schr. Bismarck, when by some means the chaulk in one of the hawser holes of the vessel gave way, and springing out struck Mr. Williams on the head, completely crushing in his skull, and causing death in three hours. His body was brought down the lake and was buried yesterday at Wolfe Island. He leaves a widow and one child to mourn his untimely loss. Mr. Williams, who was much respected and well known on the lake, belonged to Nova Scotia, and his friends all live in that Province, but their address is unknown.
