p.3 City Council - Petition - of John Devana referring to the assessment of the steam barge Dundee, his property, and praying for a remission of the taxes. Referred to the Court of Revision with power to act.

Petition of Holcomb & Stewart, complaining that in the years 1872, 1873, 1874 and 1875 they had been over-assessed, and asking that the taxes for the present year be remitted.

Ald. Walkem objected to the Court of Revision being asked to consider such a petition.

Ald. Gaskin said the petitioners were perfectly justified in applying to the Council for remission under the circumstances, and detailed the facts connected with the assessment of the elevators.

Yacht Race - As will be seen by the announcement elsewhere, a meeting has been called for tomorrow evening for the purpose of considering the expediency of getting up a regatta for the first of July. There are four boats in Kingston ready to compete in a second class race, the Emma, Laura and Zitella, old rivals, and Mr. Cunningham's Sappho, besides which the offer of a good purse would doubtless bring down yachts from Belleville and Cobourg, and one or two from the other side. We hope that no difficulty will be found in raising the required funds, about $175 being all that would be necessary to enable the committee to offer three prizes worth racing for.
