p.2 The Countess of Dufferin - On Monday the sale of Capt. Cuthbert's interest in the yacht Countess of Dufferin was put up at auction by the sheriff of Richmond county. The sale was postponed from the previous Tuesday at the request of Cuthbert, who said he expected some Canadian friends to bid for his interest. When the sale was about to take place, a telegram was produced, purporting to come from Mr. W.D. Burns, of the Dominion Bank, Cobourg, asking for a further adjournment. The request was refused, and Cuthbert's interest was put up and purchased by a lawyer at Stapleton for the large sum of seven dollars and a half. Thus Col. Gifford, who is performing his duty as trustee of the yacht, and trying to make a sale of her in British waters by taking her away from New York to Canada, has been detained with a full crew at great expense. The yacht is going on a dry dock on Monday to have her bottom cleaned and painted. She will then proceed on her voyage for Quebec.

The Chicago Times of the 2nd says: "Grain freights are again tending downward, and it looks as if they will touch 2 cents on corn once more within a very short time. Vessels chartered on Tuesday afternoon received 3 1/4 cents, and not 3 1/2 as reported. On yesterday the rates declined to 3 cents on corn. The wages of seamen at Chicago may once more be quoted at $1.25 per day, one or more crews having been obtained at this rate.
