The recent disaster on Lake Erie, by which the brig Oxford was lost, should be judicially investigated, and not permitted to pass by unnoticed as was that of the reckless, and perhaps criminal, destruction of the steamer Northerner. Five human beings were drowned, or if the sinking was caused by want of vigilance, or recklessness, murdered, and a proper regard for the public welfare demands a thorough judicial investigation. We do not believe all of the many accidents on the Lakes are the result of accident, or even carelessness.
