p.3 First Trip - The Pierrepont made her first trip this morning to Garden Island. The dates on which she accomplished her first trip to Cape Vincent in previous years have been very much earlier. Thus, in 1871, March 16th; 1872, March 18th; 1873, April 12th; 1874, March 28th; 1877, April 7th. There is a clear strip of blue water visible about half a mile from the city and now the ice only remains in the very edge of the harbour.

South Bay - A South Bay despatch says a vessel under full sail can be seen outside of the ice this morning working down towards the upper gap or Kingston. It is expected the ice will not be out of the Bay for some days yet.
