p.3 Welland Canal Investigation - Mr. E.V. Bodwell, a former member of the House of Commons, and latterly Superintendent of the Welland Canal, has been suspended together with several of his assistants, as the result of an investigation which has for some time been going on.

Marine News

Captain Rothwell's new steamer, the Princess Louise, had a trial trip this afternoon.

St. L. & C.F. Co. - Arrived - E.H. Rutherford, Toledo, 15,800 bushels corn; Cavalier, Port Hope, 16,000 bushels wheat; Victor, Toledo, 17,400 bushels corn.

Garden Island, May 22nd - The steamer H.A. Calvin left here last evening with 19 drams of timber for Quebec. The steamer Chieftain arrived today from Dickenson's Landing, light.

Port Colborne, May 21st - Up - schrs. Florida, of Oswego, Oswego, Detroit, coal; J.R. Benson, Kingston, Toledo, light; G.M. Neelon, Kingston, Toledo, light.

Down - schrs. Anna Craig, Sandusky, Collins Bay, timber; Smith & Post, R. Norwood, and prop. Acadia, arrived for canal not reported at 7 p.m.

Port Colborne, May 22nd - schrs. J.R. Benson, Kingston, Toledo, light; G.M. Neelon, Kingston, Toledo, light; Lyman, Ogdensburg, Cleveland, iron ore; St. Andrews, St. Catharines, Kingston, light; Gleniffer, Kingston, Milwaukee, light; Belle Mitchell, Oswego, Chicago, coal; Myosotis, Oswego, Milwaukee, coal; Canada, Kingston, Toledo, light; St. Louis, Kingston, Toledo, light; Maize, Ogdensburg, Cleveland, iron ore; barge Grimsby, Kingston, Milwaukee, light; steambarge Clinton, Kingston, Milwaukee, light; prop.
