The following is a list of the crew lost on board the propeller "J.W. Brooks," as shown by the pay-roll, previous to her last unfortunate trip: Charles Hammond, master; Charles Williams, First Mate; Calvin J. Ripley, Second Mate; Seth P. Bryant, Clerk; William Blauchett, First Engineer; George Moore, Second Engineer; John McVoy, Wheelman; James Williams, Cook (colored); Alexander McCollum, Waiter; Eugene Adams, Porter; Thomas O'Neill, Fireman; William Sweeney, Fireman; Henry Byrnes, Deck-hand; John Campbell, Deck-hand; Charles Shetney, Deck-hand; John Dugan, Deck-hand. Besides the above named persons, two or three passengers were also supposed to be on board.
