STEAMER BURNED AT OSWEGO

On Thursday evening a fire was discovered in the hold of the Northern Transportation Company's steamer Prairie State, Captain Williams, which was laying at their dock, at Oswego, fully freighted and bound for Chicago and intermediate ports. The Fire Brigade being unable to extinguish the flames, she was finally scuttled and sunk. The loss on the cargo is estimated at $20,000 or $30,000, which will be borne by different individuals. The damage to the steamer is estimated at $2,000 which is covered by insurance.
