ANTIKOKAN, WELL KNOWN PIG, ONCE ABANDONED.
The whaleback steamer, ANTIKOKAN, which came in here yesterday with a cargo of wheat from Fort William, will load coal at the Lehigh Dock today.
The ANTIKOKAN has a peculiar history. She was a one time owned by the Pittsburgh Steamship Company and was known then as the JOHN B. TREVOR. Some years ago she went ashore on Isle Royale, Lake Superior, during a bad blow. She went high and dry, and after the company's wreckers had made futile efforts to get her off, she was abandoned. Later on, Canadian parties succeeded in floating the pig, and after having her bottom damages repaired, she was sold to the Canadian Northern Steamship Company, which operates her at present. She carries 3,300 tons of ore.
