Launched as an Empire-class salvage tug, the EMPIRE SANDY was renamed ASHFORD in 1948. Arrived in Canada in October 1951, and was christened at Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1952 as CHRIS M. Sold for scrapping in 1979, the tug was purchased by Capt. Norm Rogers and it was converted to a three masted [auxiliary-powered] tern schooner and renamed EMPIRE SANDY.
