Northwest (Bark), U18102, 23 May 1862
- Full Text
Quite an interesting race is at present on the tap is between the two barks, both new the present season. One of the above vessels, built at Buffalo, is a fine clipper built craft and called the ONEONTA, commanded by Capt. CLose. The other vessel is of Cleveland build, has a fine model and is already pronounced a fast sailer. She is called the NORTHWEST, and commanded by Capt. Atkins. These rival vessels took their departure from Chicago at around the same time on the morning of the 21st inst., and are to make the run through to Buffalo. A large amount is bet, we understand as to the result.
