The ALBANY, the first of the new steel steamers built by the Detroit Drydock Co., at Wyandotte, for the Western Transit Co., was successfully launched on Wednesday afternoon (8/20) and will be placed in commission about September 15. Her sister ship the SYRACUSE will be completed about 2 weeks later. The ALBANY is somewhat larger than the BOSTON and has 2 ft. more beam. She is 266 ft. lenght on the keel and 282 ft. overall; 28 ft. beam, 17 ft. 6 inches in the hold and 9 ft. between the decks. She will carry about 2,200 tons on 14 ft. of water. Her cost will be $200,000.
