LAUNCH OF THE ATLAS. - A large concourse of people assembled on Saturday afternoon to witness the launch of the new steamer ATLAS at Bidwell & Banta's ship yard. The afternoon was clear and bright though somewhat cold, and everything went off pleasantly and without accident. About five o'clock the boat slid gracefully from the ways to the embrace of her future element, and as they kissed for the first time, the fact was proclaimed by most enthusiastic cheers from the multitude which had been watching her with eager eyes.
The "ATLAS" is built for Mr. Bancroft, we are informed, and is intended to run between Detroit and Ogdensburg, through the Welland Canal. She is a staunch serviceable craft, in every respect creditable to her builders.
