Ralph Campbell (Schooner), U21179, 24 Jul 1905
- Full Text
Chicago, July 25. - The old schooner RALPH CAMPBELL, after sailing the lake for fifty years, has just been sold by Wm. Drieske & Co. She will be used hereafter as a sort of houseboat around the harbor. Notwithstanding a half century of service the old boat was in good shape until the other day when the whalfback CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS swung against her, on the way out of the river. When the appraisers got through estimating the damage they found it would cost so much to repair the schooner, they concluded to sell her. During her career the CAMPBELL brought enough lumber into Chicago to build a small sized city.
